Classes are small, limited to 6-8 students per class. All training is reward based training, my methods are humane and progressive, I do not believe in choke chains, physical punishment, aggressive handling or aversive techniques and will prove through my methods that reward based training is the best way to achieve positive results with your dog.
The aim of the course is to help owners build and develop strong trusting relationships through training and canine understanding. You will be given specialist support through proven techniques that are modern and kind giving that will give you the basic knowledge you need to develop a well mannered dog that will behave in a controlled manner in a variety of situations.
The course is made up of 6 sessions:
Session 1 – Welcome talk and discussion which includes guidance on dog training, behaviour, diet, responsibility, care and much more. You will receive training handouts and information about dog care and guidance and begin your training programme.
Sessions 2-5 – Practical sessions covering the dog exercises below. We will discuss in session 1 what are the best training treats and equipment for dog training. Training classes will take place in the hall but throughout the course practical sessions may be taken outside to generalise the dogs learning so they don’t become accustomed to only learning indoors.
Session 6 – A reflection of everything you have been taught throughout the course and a chance to address any issues or develop any training exercises that you feel would benefit you and your dog.
Exercises covered by the course
Loose Lead Walking
Basic positions – Sit, Down & Stand
Stay in position
Control at door/gate
Controlled walk amongst people and other dogs
Grooming & Examination of the dog
And much, much more………..
Dog Aggression and Stress: Dogs that display signs of aggression will be not be allowed to attend training class. Training to reduce aggression can be carried out on a one to one basis. If I feel a class environment is not suitable for you or your dog I will suggest and assist with an alternative training environment.
If you feel a one to one session would be more suitable for your needs then please contact me.
Additional to the exercises covered on the course there will be fun and games sessions with the opportunity to try different training activities (this will vary from course to course).
I try to make my classes as fun as possible. Having three dogs of my own I know the importance of dog training and establishing the right amount of exercise, feeding, mental stimulation and care that you and your dog need to have a great relationship. If you have any questions regarding dog training I am here to help. Alongside classes I can also provide one to one training and behaviour or residential training if that is more suitable for you and your dog.
Each course is attended weekly 1 hour a week for 6 weeks.
